Toyota Of Knoxville Used Cars – Toyota attracted around 70,000 Toyota and Lexus brand vehicles in North America to replace inflator airbags that could explode and throw shrapnel into the driver and passengers. The withdrawal included Corolla 2003 to 2005, Sequoia 2002-2005, Tundra 2003-2005 and Lexus SC 2002-2005.
Takata uses the chemicals ammonium nitrate to make small explosions and expand bags. But it can get worse and burn too fast, flying a metal tube. Toyota and Lexus vehicles were pulled before and the inflator was replaced with a new one that still used ammonium nitrate. In the latest withdrawal, Toyota will use inflators made by other companies with safer chemicals.

The owner will be notified early next year. Toyota says it has available spare parts.
About 65,000 vehicles that are pulled are in the U.S.
Toyota said it was making a recall a year ahead of schedule set by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
At least 23 people have died worldwide due to problems caused by inflators made by Takata Corp., which produced the largest series of automatic withdrawals in US history. They cover 37 million vehicles and around 50 million inflators in the U.S. About 100 million inflators are being recalled worldwide.
The withdrawal forced Takata from Japan to seek bankruptcy protection.
