Used Car Dealerships In Warwick Ri – A review of The Austin-Healey 100/4 BN2 Sports Car, which includes development, important features, and technical data from the first model in this line. In this article, I offer a look of nostalgia at Austin-Healey 100/4 BN2, one of the elite groups of classic cars, which were produced during the period 1955 to 1956.
In August 1955, the production of the BN1 Austin-Healey 100/4 sports car was finally closed after 10,030 cars were built. Even though the replacement production, the 100/4 BNN, began the same month, it was not officially launched until it was presented at the London Motor Show in October of that year.

Like the BN1, it is powered by a 2.6-liter, 4-cylinder engine overhead valve.
However, BN2 now displays:
Drum brakes are all enlarged
Original three-speed gearbox, with first gear blocked, now replaced with a four-speed unit, along with overdrive in the top two teeth
The front wheel arches are increased in size to a certain extent
Different rear axle
The two-tone color scheme for body panels is an optional addition
These optional color combinations include: White and Black, Red and Black Reno, Healey Blue and White, Black and Reno Red, Florida Green and White.
Specially designed for rally and race tracks, 100S sports cars, where “S” refers to Sebring, producing 132 bhp at 4,700 rpm.
Appearing in 1955, it was built with aluminum body panels.
A total of 50 cars were built, along with five next-hand cars made at the Warwick factory.
Instead of cast iron heads, the 100S uses aluminum.
To minimize weight, there are no gear units, hoods, or bumpers, smaller grille is used, and the windshield is made of plastic.
It was the first production car to include all Dunlop disc brakes.
The result of these steps is a savings of around two hundred pounds.
Almost all 100S body panels are painted in two colors of American racing, White and Lobelia Blue, even though one car is only painted black.
100S competed in many famous racing venues, such as Le Mans, Sebring, and Mille Miglia.
In fact, it was a replica of a special car, driven by Stirling Moss, where he finished third in the Sebring 1954 twelve-hour race.
Austin-Healey 100 million
Following the 100S, the most famous and desirable initial variant of BN2 is the 100M Le Mans sports car.
Appearing in 1956, it offers greater performance and a variety of distinctive external features that come from experiences gained on the race track.
100M Specifications include:
The hood contains louvered vents with a leather strap
Two 1.75 inch SU H6 carburetors are bigger
Silver wire wheel
The windshield is low and adjustable which can be folded flat for a sporty driver
The compression ratio increases from 7.5 to 8.1: 1
High lift camshaft and high compression piston
Cold air box and air tube to increase air flow to the carburetor
Many low intake restrictions
Rigid independent front suspension using wishbones and spring coil, and anti roll torque blades
Live rear axle with leaf springs, and anti-movement track bar
This modification increases output from 90 bhp BN2 to 110 bhp, with 154 ft / lb of torque.
About 70% of these cars are painted in a two-tone system, including two unique specialties – one in White and Red, and one in Black and Pink, the latter used in display capacity at the 1955 London Motor Show.
In total, there were 640 factories made 100M, and all of them were BN2 models from 1956.
Apart from the high compression piston, the components used to make 100M are available as the Le Mans Modification Kit, which can replace components in BN1 or BN2, thus increasing the output to 100 bhp.
Warwick factory Donald Healey increased 519 additional cars with the Le Mans kit after they left the production line.
Because this kit, and any component, is available from BMC, any modifications can be made by the Austin dealer or the customer himself.
The total 100M built in Longbridge and Warwick is 1,159.
The BN2 production ended in August 1955 when it was replaced by Austin-Healey 100-6.
