Used Car Finder Search Engines – BMW drew more than 300,000 cars after finding the vehicle’s engine completely disconnected while driving. The German manufacturer issued last year’s safety recall for 36,140 gasoline cars after the former Ghurka soldier died from overtaking a damaged BMW.

But now that number jumped nearly tenfold to nearly 312,000 because automakers recalled 1 Series, 3 Series, Z4 and X1 gasoline and diesel models produced between March 2007 and August 2011 amid security concerns. Narayan Gurung, 66, was traveling with his wife on Christmas Day in 2016 when their Ford Fiesta hit a tree.

The driver tried to avoid crashing into a damaged BMW – the black Series 3 – which stopped in the middle of the A-dark road in Hampshire.

Electrical damage caused the engine to jam and the brake lights failed, and after an investigation by the BBC, there were fears that the same error could affect hundreds of thousands of cars.

Manufacturers will contact affected model owners in the next three weeks, said a spokesman.

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) said last week BMW had failed to warn British authorities to 19 cases of electrical errors in car models involved in fatal accidents.

A BMW spokesman said: “Now we realize the need to expand the recall to capture a larger car cohort. We are widening the net as a precautionary measure.”

He added that errors could be corrected within two hours and involved replacing the plug.

Watchdog Live aired tonight and featured the Mwape Kambafwile case, the BMW 3 Series car was completely cut when he was driving in December 2016.

He told the program: “I just think if I drive on the highway with my family in a car, it can be very dangerous.

“I took him to BMW. The next day they called me to say they had found a mistake, it seemed the cable had burnt out and no current had passed through the fuse box. ”

BMW allowed Mwape to bring the vehicle home without, he said, any warning not to use it.

“I feel uncomfortable riding it so we take a taxi, I walk to the office every day. It’s a nightmare, it’s not safe enough to drive. ”

Mwape was furious when he learned that the gasoline version of the same car had been recalled because of the same mistake – while he was left to bear the cost of repairing himself.

In the program, independent engineer Mike O’Sullivan was seen checking Mwape’s car to see if the parts were different from the gasoline model.

He said: “We can see that they use the same connector on both vehicles. There seems to be no difference in the main connector to the fuse board. ”

Watchdog was contacted by others whose BMW 3 series cars lost power – some while traveling at high speed.

BMW’s previous withdrawal was related to gasoline vehicles built between December 2009 and August 2011, a production period in which the design of certain cable configurations meant that vehicle vibrations could potentially cause friction corrosion at the plug of the electricity distributor.
