Used Cars Champaign Il – Clark and Champaign County crew are preparing for winter with thousands of tons of salt. The WHIO Storm Center 7 forecast calls for the winter mix to fall Thursday. A Winter Weather Suggestion is issued for the entire Miami Valley for Wednesday starting at 10pm. and is expected to last until Thursday at 12pm.
Estimates of the call for the winter mix fell on Thursday morning causing the road to become slippery during morning trips. Those responsible for maintaining passable roads in Springfield, Clark and County Champaign say they are ready for snow and ice.

“We have around 5,000 tons of salt in barns and around 3,000 more under contracts,” Clark County Engineer Johnathan Burr said. “We like salt on our land and start full. Sometimes when you are hit by a hard hit (with the weather), it is rather disturbing the shipping process. That way we get it and ready. ”
Burr said his agency was responsible for 310 miles of county roads and had more than 20 snow-plow drivers ready for this season. If the weather is bad, there are more than 25 drivers who hit the road.
Burr said the department must be ready.
“Usually, small snow affects traffic more than big snow. “People aren’t ready for that with the first in this season,” said Burr. ”
Champaign County Engineer Stephen McCall said the road to salting was one of the most important jobs handled by his office.
“We plan for the worst winter we have ever had and hope for the best,” he said.
Champaign County finished last winter with around 700 tons of salt, McCall said. As many as 1,400 tons of other salt are shipped this week to the county.
“On average, we usually use around 2,000 tons per year and we mix it with sand,” he said.
Sand, which is like sand, is good for attractiveness. The Champaign County Engineer Office is responsible for managing around 240 miles of road and many have sharp turns, McCall said. Grit helps keep the car on slippery roads.
Springfield City Service Director Chris Moore told News-Sun that the city was also prepared for winter weather.
“We have around 2,500 tons of salt in our hands. Our plan, like any hurricane, is to monitor forecasts and schedules hijacking drivers to start snow activities and proper ice removal as soon as conditions warrant, “he said.
It is important for drivers to be patient while driving around salty trucks, said the three men. This is a big job with lots of variables, Burr said.
“Give them a little space and please don’t interfere,” Burr said. “They tried to clear the way for you.”
The driver of the truck driver traveled about 25 miles per hour, he said.
McCall said that pirate truck drivers work with long shifts and need space.
“They have a lot of things to deal with when they drive and also when you are on the road with ice and snow, be careful,” McCall said. “Give them space and time.”
AAA recommends that drivers be careful when driving in winter weather. The tips include speeding up slowly, paying attention to the hills, avoiding slamming on the brakes and storing emergency equipment in the car.
