Gardner was identified through DNA evidence collected in one of the vehicle thefts and also related to another vehicle theft after the victim’s credit card was used in a restaurant drive-through window, according to the sergeant.
“The surveillance record captured by the restaurant was given to detectives and they immediately recognized the suspect as Gardner,” Suttles said.
When detectives went to the house in Covina on Wednesday morning, they saw Gardner looking out the window, but when they talked to other residents at the residence, they were told that he was not there, Suttles said.
“Because detectives have verified Gardner’s whereabouts at home, they can enter the house to look for it,” Suttles said. “After doing that they can find Gardner and take him to custody. Detectives also found additional stolen property at home. “
