Used Cars For Sale In Tulsa Ok – Tulsa has one of the highest rates of vehicle theft in the country for major cities, according to a recent study. Using data from the FBI, a study by security company ASecureLife found that Tulsa ranked 17th nationally for cars stolen per capita. This study included 236 metropolitan areas with a population of 100,000 or more.
Oakland, California, took the top position, and Springfield, Missouri, was second. The most unlikely place for a vehicle to be stolen is Naperville, Illinois. Most vehicle theft is only a crime opportunity, the Tulsa police automatic theft division Sgt. Glen Moore said.

Moore is not sure why car theft is so common in Tulsa in particular, but he has some thoughts about how to reduce numbers.
“If people will stop helping out criminals that will surely lower our level and help us,” he said. “More than 50 percent of vehicles are stolen in Tulsa, the key is one or the other left behind.”
These are rare criminals who have the expertise or patience to heat a car, Moore said. Why waste time fiddling with open wires when the key is in the ignition, or sitting on the glovebox?
Moore estimates that 10 percent or fewer cars are installed in Tulsa every year. If the car is stolen, the possibility of the owner makes it easy.
However, car theft continues to increase in Oklahoma, according to statistics from the Oklahoma State Investigation Bureau.
In 2017, there are more than 12,000 reports of vehicles stolen from all states. The previous year, 11,869 reports were submitted, and in 2015, 10,169 cars were reported missing.
TPD has a recovery rate that hovers around 65 percent, although usually when a car is found, the thief has long since disappeared. When they get to where they are going, they often just throw the car somewhere or sell it for a few hundred dollars to someone who doesn’t ask questions.
“They claim they don’t know … but if you get a car that is worth 5-10 thousand for $ 300, common sense will tell you something is illegal,” Moore said, adding that people who buy stolen property can expect to see accusations criminal.
Pickups Ford and Chevy are the ones most often stolen in Tulsa, Moore said, which do not reflect the preference of thieves for cars compared to the average Tulsan.
“Don’t leave your key in your car, don’t let it run and lock the door,” Moore said. “If people will do these three things alone, I bet we will reduce the theft rate of our cars by 50 percent.”
