Used Cars Princeton Wv – Motorists driving cars and other small vehicles that travel south on Interstate 77 are being urged to use Route 460 to turn west to help avoid traffic jams when repaving work is taking place on the southern lane between Princeton and Bluefield.
Starting Tuesday, an optional detour for cars began after contractors began preparing for work on the I-77 south lane. Tractors that travel south will remain on I-77. In May, the northbound tractor trailer was required to leave the I-77 at Exit 1 at Bluefield and lower Route 460 to Princeton where they returned to I-77 at Exit 9. This detour ended just before Labor Day weekend.

The sign now marks a new southern detour.
“We are in the early stages,” said Brent Walker, director of communications for the West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOT) on Thursday. “Actually, we started it on Tuesday when we started moving the barrier. We do work on shoulders and slow lanes with the hope of moving (working) to the fast lane for rehabilitation work. We do some patches today and maybe even until Friday. The idea is to move traffic to the shoulder and the slow lane and then start off the fast lane and the outer shoulder. ”
Tractors traveling south will be encouraged to stay on the interstate.
“Of course, they can get out of the exit (Exit 9) for their normal delivery and work,” Walker said.
Drivers who take Route 460 will descend on Exit 9 and travel west to John Nash Boulevard in Bluefield where they will return to I-77 at Exit 1 No one will be asked to take this detour, but the driver can find that it is faster than remaining on I-77 to the south, Walker said.
“At a time when there is a reserve, we will ask for a vehicle, not a truck, but another vehicle to consider taking (Route) 460 or allowing 460 to become an alternative route,” he added. “It might be faster times to travel 15 miles from 9 miles if you stay on the interstate.”
Walker says WVDOT will watch to see how well the detour works.
“We think this will run smoothly,” he said. “We will only continue to monitor that and see. When reserved, again, we will ask – even though it’s not mandatory – that the car considers an alternative route that will be 460. “
